Copyright and DMCA

Recordings and playable quotes on Shared Valley are shared by players, and a quote contains parts of the game it was made on. We respect copyright and respond to notices that follow the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512).

Designated agent

Copyright Agent, Shared Valley, Inc.
Email: contact@sharedvalley.com (subject "DMCA notice" or "DMCA counter-notice")

Reporting infringement (takedown notice)

If you own the copyright in something shared here, or act for the owner, email a notice with:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature (typing your full name is enough).
  2. The copyrighted work you say is infringed (for example, the game's title and publisher).
  3. The link to each recording or quote, e.g. https://sharedvalley.com/play?quote=… or ?rec=….
  4. Your name, postal address, telephone number and email address.
  5. A statement that you have a good faith belief that the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. A statement that the information in the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act on the owner's behalf.

Send a takedown notice

What happens next

  1. We review the notice. A notice missing required information may be returned to you to complete.
  2. We remove or disable the reported recordings and quotes promptly, usually within two business days.
  3. We reply to confirm what was removed. Uploads aren't tied to accounts, so we can't notify the uploader directly; a removed link shows as not found.

Counter-notice

If you shared something that was removed and believe it was a mistake or misidentification, or that your use is authorized or allowed by law, email a counter-notice with:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. The link of the removed recording or quote.
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief it was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
  4. Your name, postal address and telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. Federal District Court for your address (or, if you are outside the United States, any judicial district in which Shared Valley, Inc. may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the notice, or their agent.

Send a counter-notice

We forward a complete counter-notice, including your contact details, to the person who sent the takedown notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action to stop the infringement, we restore the upload within 10 to 14 business days of receiving your counter-notice.

Repeat infringers

Where we can identify someone who repeatedly shares infringing material, we will block them from uploading.

Before you send

Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing, or that it was removed by mistake, can be liable for damages. If you are unsure whether something infringes your rights, consider asking a lawyer first. For anything other than copyright, write to contact@sharedvalley.com.
